Community Councils for Blurton?

Blurton Road SignRob has recently been contacted by residents in Blurton, who wish to see Community Councils established in their area.

If you are a resident of Blurton you will have recently received a letter from Rob, who has acted on the wishes of these constituents and consulted the whole of Blurton ward to establish the level of support for these plans.  A Community Council - often referred to as an urban Parish Council - would operate at a 'grass-roots' level and allows local people a direct input on matters which affect their area.  This, in turn, could help Stoke-on-Trent City Council to improve the standard of services offered to the residents of Blurton.

Responsibilities of Community Councils varies across the country, however they are typically responsible for matters such as the provision of community transport, crime prevention measures and local amenities, and they have the right to be involved in consultation on any planning matters which affect the area concerned.

Rob's suggestion is to split the Blurton area into the four communities of Blurton Farm, Hollybush, Newstead and Old Blurton, thereby creating four new Community Councils.  In order to establish a Community Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council must be presented with a petition containing a set number of the voters from each particular area, so if you do live in Blurton and do support the idea of Community Councils, then please sign up to the petition below.

If you would like more information on the topic of Community Councils then please contact Rob's constituency office through any of the means listed in the Contact Rob section of this website.

I/We, the undersigned, wish for Stoke-on-Trent City Council to take the necessary measures towards establishing new Community Councils in the Blurton area.  The area of the Community Councils would be the areas of Blurton Farm, Hollybush, Newstead and Old Blurton, as specified by the polling station areas used in the most recent local elections.
